Poggio Catino is a small village in central Italy not too far from Poggio Mirteto.

The churches

There are several churches that we recommend you to visit in Poggio Catino. Among these: San Agostino, Madonna dei Nobili and San Rocco.

According to some testimonies, the church of San Agostino was built before the year 1000. Also according to testimonies, attached to the church, there was a small convent: inside which the friars resided.

This church has undergone several interventions over the centuries. Inside you can find frescoes of various kinds.

The church of San Rocco is located inside the main square of Poggio Catino. It was built in the 14th century. With a single nave, it has an apse decorated with 15th century frescoes.

The church of the Madonna dei Nobili is located in Poggio Catino but is actually “belonging” to the hamlet of Catino. According to the testimonies, the church has very ancient origins. This church has undergone several changes over the years, too.

Olgiati Palace

The Olgiati baronial palace of Poggio Catino is now the seat of the municipality of the small Sabine village. The building is very characteristic, inside it is possible to find frescoes and works of various kinds.

This was once a noble residence.

The Rocca of Catino

As previously specified, Catino is a small fraction of Poggio Catino. The hamlet was actually founded previously of Poggio Catino: towards the end of the 17th century, the beginning of the 18th century.

If you are in the surrounding area you cannot help but visit the Rocca. This was once the castle of the village and some parts have been well preserved over time. Among these: the pentagonal tower and a part of the structure.

We advise you to visit the fortress towards sunset: it offers a truly suggestive panorama. The visit is free and open.
